Sunset in Dili

People on the beach.

The beach is inescapable when you are in Dili, Timor Leste. From Tasi Tolu to Meti Aut, there lies the center of the Dilinese universe.

As the sun rises from its overnight bed, people jog and bike by the side of Kelapa Beach. Others will sit patiently waiting for the fishermen’s boats to arrive and unload their catch.

During lunchtime, the bench in front of the Palacio do Governo, the Dili government building, is usually packed with people enjoying a break. Coconut anyone? It’s a pleasant refreshing drink in the scorching sun.

In the afternoon and at weekends, the coast is at its busiest. You will have difficulties parking your vehicle at the Lago de Lecidere. You can meet groups of youngsters playing soccer, fishing, doing bike slaloms or just walking by holding hands, as children roam the water front. Don’t miss the sunset.

Take your place between two huge trees near by the Casa Europa to indulge in the twilight.
